Koningspaar Bhutan vliegt met vrouwelijke crew

De Bhutaanse koning Jigme Khesar en zijn vrouw Jetsun waren vrijdag bij de aftrap van een hele bijzondere vlucht van de nationale vliegmaatschappij Druk Air. De luchtvaartmaatschappij vliegt ter ere van International Women’s Day voor het eerst met een crew volledig bestaande uit vrouwen.

8 March 2019: His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen with the all-women crew of DrukAir flight KB 130 this morning to Bangkok from Paro, on International Women’s Day. Their Majesties congratulated the women, who made history by being the first all-women crew to operate a Druk Air flight. The crew included the country’s first female Captain, Ugyen Dema, Sr. First Officer, Sonam Lhamo, and the country’s first female licensed flight engineer, Sonam Deki Tshering, along with all-women cabin crew, push back team, check-in, catering, and other ground staff. Druk Air employs 168 women, who constitute 35.44% of its total workforce. According to Druk Air, the milestone flight celebrates the indispensible contribution of women to the airline and the aviation industry, and intends to inspire more women to join the aviation industry in the future. #HisMajesty #KingJigmeKhesar #HerMajesty #QueenJetsunPema #DrukAir #Bhutan #Women #InternationalWomensDay2019

Het koningspaar feliciteerde de maatschappij met deze mijlpaal en ging met de vliegende dames op de foto. De vlucht van Paro naar Bangkok werd bestuurd door de eerste vrouwelijke piloot in Bhutan. Daarnaast bestond ook de crew aan boord, op de grond en de technische ondersteuning volledig uit vrouwen.

Bij Druk Air werken in totaal 168 vrouwen, ruim 35 procent van alle werknemers. Met de vrouwenvlucht wil de maatschappij haar vrouwelijke werknemers bedanken voor de inzet. Ook hoopt Druk Air met de actie meer vrouwen aan te trekken.
